Hey y’all –
We are in transition, and it’s a little uncomfortable, don’t you think? I am ready to slough off the heaviness and introspection of winter, but then we just got a massive snow storm! The sun is rising and birds are chirping, but I kind of just want to stay in bed. The daylight hours are all askew with this unnatural changing of the time we have to adjust to.
This time of year, I am always prone to a bit of depression. It’s very natural if we look to Mother Nature for reflection. As everything awakens and thaws, mud comes forth, water slushes around, and there is a heaviness that rests upon the earth that must give way for the tender shoots of Spring to emerge.
Right now, I am all kinds of aware of my resistance. This is the discomfort of transition. But as a yogi, I know about discomfort, and I teach others how to navigate change in their lives. Wait, that means I have to do it, too? Dang.
So, here’s my plan:
1. Chant more (to move prana – life force – and uplift my mood)
2. Dry brush my skin (to move prana and stimulate lymph)
3. Move my body with joy everyday – dance, asana, and exercise
4. Let go of a habit or two (to boost my willpower and create space)
5. Breathe fully and freely whenever I think about it
I am going to move forward with love, dedication, and commitment. I know and remember that while I feel heavy and a bit stuck right now, I will feel free and light soon enough. I am grateful for the ebb and flow that is this cycle. I am also beyond grateful for the tools of Ayurveda and Yoga to aid me in this sloughing off.
With love,
Fannie
